Mr. Massey was born on March 13, 1938 in Reidsville, NC to the late Charlie Reed and Claudia Wilkerson Massey. While growing up, he lived in several small towns in NC, but finally settled in Raleigh where he met his eternal companion of 63 years on earth, Lynell Upchurch Massey. Bobby introduced Lynnell to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where they faithfully served teaching primary children for many years. During his time in the church, Bobby was also known as a long-time greeter for the services, helped build and lay the flooring at the church and in his retirement helped maintain the church property. Bobby began a career in flooring, starting out as an apprentice laying tile in homes and businesses. He eventually started his own business called Bob Massey Tile and Linoleum Service. His hobbies included anything working with his hands; woodworking, playing guitar and writing poems. He enjoyed restoring a 1952 Chevy truck called the "Penny Pincher" that won awards in antique car shows. He took great pleasure in helping people and will be remembered for his wonderful wit and dry, quirky sense of humor.
Mr. Massey is survived by his son, Michael Reid Massey of Raleigh, brother, Bill Massey of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren, Michael Reid, Jr., Dalton, Christian, and Andrew Massey; and great grandchildren, Caolan and James Massey.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lynell, to whom he was married for 63 years, his parents, and sister, Virginia Massey Tucker.
A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home. The family received visitors prior to the service, beginning at 10:00am. Burial followed in Raleigh Memorial Park.
