Church members, gun enthusiasts, motorcyclists, history enthusiasts, American patriots, and several handfuls of other groups mourn the loss of Bruce Harris. At age 60, Bruce moved out of this existence to ride free with his Creator after having shown many how one truly LIVES a life. Those who call him friend, or brother, will miss him dearly yet it is with love and appreciation we smile and laugh in full possession of the joys, lessons, and escapades he either brought us to, or brought us through.
Bruce had a fully engaged mind and quick wit that he employed with great zeal as he dove through archives, maps, libraries, historic sites, in his never-ending quest To Know. He didn't just believe, he lived his beliefs; all of them. He supported all the things that were important to him with his time, money, and intellect.
Bruce lived his life with great relish and leaves many of us with opened eyes and hearts, better inspired to do the same. While all the above is true, the truest thing of all was his steadfast love, devotion, and admiration for his wife, Lois. Bruce made it quite clear to all that it was Lois who helped keep him grounded spiritually; that she was his "most beautiful woman in the world", his greatest treasure. During the course of his illness, Bruce made sure each person in his world knew their worth in his eyes; expressed his gratitude for their love and comradeship; and assured all that his only regret was leaving Lois, when his time came.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Lois Harris of Cary; parents, Henry W. and Carolyn P. Harris of Winston-Salem; step-daughter, Jennifer Whitehead and her husband Greg of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Haydon, Jackson, and Chloe; brother, Hank Harris, Jr. of Berkeley, CA; sister, Jill Welborn and her husband Stan of Asheboro and nephew, Dakota.
Funeral services for Bruce will be Sunday, January 26th at 2:30pm in the Chapel at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC. There will be a visitation for the family to receive friends Saturday, January 25th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Mitchell Funeral Home.
