Carole was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Don and Marilyn Balser. She graduated from Indiana University in 1980 with a degree in Dental Hygiene and truly enjoyed serving and connecting with her patients for the 39 years she was practicing. She moved to North Carolina in 1983 where she met her future husband, William Ivey. They married on May 27th, 1989 and went on to have two beautiful daughters, Leslie and Samantha.
Carole was a wonderful wife to her husband of over 30 years, a loving mother to her two daughters, dedicated Nana to her two grandchildren, and beloved sister to her eight siblings. She will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic woman who always had a smile on her face and never met a stranger. She was ever calm and serene in her Catholic faith, and always remembered to count her blessings. Her character and temperament were evident when she was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in August 2019 until her passing into heaven. Being the fighter that she was, she lived life to the fullest, loving her family and caring for them selflessly, never complaining about her own challenges.
We would like to extend a special thank you to so many at UNC Cancer Hospital and Transitions LifeCare. Their love and caring were always abundantly apparent while taking care of Carole.
