Carolyn Lindsay Shoaf Spencer, 88, passed away after a brief illness at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Born on April 4, 1933 in Davidson County, NC; she was one of three daughters of the late Neris Clay Shoaf and Margaret Cecil Shoaf.
Carolyn worked many years with Durham Life before using her artist talent to develop the volunteer art program at Northridge Elementary School. She also spent several years at Northridge as a teacher’s assistant. Carolyn enjoyed gardening, listening to 1950’s music (especially Elvis Gospel Music), and having her one glass of White Zinfandel when at Texas Roadhouse Restaurant. Most importantly however was time with her family, being their “Mimi”. No one made better Ritz Cracker chicken or macaroni & cheese. Her many gifts of original art will always be treasured.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years: Donald Delano Spencer, Sr., of Wake Forest; sons: Donald D. “Del” Spencer, Jr. and wife Karla, of Raleigh and James C. “Jim” Spencer and wife Jean, of Garner; grandsons: Wesley Spencer, Andrew Spencer and Bryan Jones; great-grandchild: Ori Jones; sister: Cecilia Huneycutt, of Trinity; and by many other family and friends.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and sister: Connie Howard.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 13th from 1:00-2:45 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home. We will process together to Raleigh Memorial Park for a 3:00 pm Graveside Service. For those unable to attend the service, a video link will be posted afterwards below under DONATIONS for viewing.
