

Charles Howard Geier, 83 , passed away unexpectedly at home on January 11, 2017 following a battle with cancer. Born on December 3, 1933 in New York, New York, he was the son of the late Irene Minicus Geier and Charles Howard Geier.
Charles graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, Class of 1951. He was a veteran in the U.S. Air Force serving as a mechanic and, thereafter, graduated from the New York Police Academy in 1963. For over 22 years, he served the public as a police officer with the 105th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. Concurrently, he was also a private flight instructor. After moving to North Carolina, he enjoyed flying his small airplane at Lake Ridge Airpark in Durham, NC. and also enjoyed his memberships in the New York Police Benevolent Association and the National Rifle Association.
He is loving remembered by his partner in life for 32 years, Lyla Burgess; three children: Susan Geier and husband Erik MacPherson, of Alhambra, CA, Patricia Herbert and husband John Herbert, of Captree Island, NY, and Charles Howard Geier, Jr., of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren: Charles Howard Geier VI, Casey James Geier, Jesse Cougar Herbert, Dylan Samantha Herbert, and John “Jack” Patrick Herbert; sisters: Catherine Mahood, of Yorktown Heights, NY and Sister Dolores Geier, of Seoul, South Korea; and by many other family and friends, including his best friend: Ron Cheatham and wife Linda, of Durham.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Eileen Vaeth and Barbara Scheffler.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 15th from 2-4 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue) in Raleigh, NC. A Celebration of Charles’ life will also be held in New York on Saturday, January 21 at 4 pm at the home of Patricia and John Herbert on Captree Island.
