
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. Sr. and Ethel Mae King and his brother, Benjamin Travis Terrell.
Charles graduated from East Carolina University with a Masters in English and began teaching at Mount Olive College. He then continued his long and illustrious career as a professor of English Literature at Danville Community College, in Danville, Virginia, where he was affectionately known as Mr. T.
Upon his retirement Charles returned to the family home on Brooks Avenue where he was
active in both the Preservation and Historical Societies. Charles was a longstanding member
of Hayes Barton Baptist Church and was active with several bridge groups. He loved to travel and socialize. With his effervescent personality and wit, Charles was the life of every party and gathering, regaling his audience with jokes and stories.
Charles was a treasure hunter and collector of art and antiques. He enjoyed attending auctions and discovering gems. His home was a homage to his eclectic taste and designer’s eye.
Charles will be remembered fondly by nieces, a nephew, cousins, colleagues, students and his many friends. He will be deeply missed.
