Clida Brantley Young, 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday evening, April 13, 2019, in the comfort of her home. Born on May 10, 1924 in Franklin County, NC; she was the last of nine children of the late Bennett Brantley and Lucy Clida Bryant Brantley. She was also preceded in death by three half siblings.

Clida graduated from Bunn High School and married John Bruce Young. They moved to Raleigh in the early 50's, where John was a butcher and went on to own and operate a service station in Cameron Village. Once the children were grown, Clida worked in the NC State Graphics Department as a Book Binder until John's illness. She was a caring wife and loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed bowling, gospel music, playing the piano by ear and cooking for friends and family ~ especially her famous homemade biscuits. Many mornings there were visitors at the house stopping in for a freshly made biscuit on the way into work.

She is survived by her four children: Tony Young, Kim Young, Vicki Markham and husband Tim Branham and Denice Young, all of Raleigh; by her five grandchildren: Amy Denton and husband Wayne, Laurie Watts, Wesley Warren Young and wife Amber, Kelli Wood and husband Steve and Brian Markham and wife Stacey; eleven great-grandchildren: Jake, Sage and Hunter, Ryan, Abby and Samantha, Hayley, Chase and Zach and Elizabeth and Holleigh; and by numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Clida was also preceded in death by her husband on Christmas Day in 1993 and by her grandson, John Rainey Young.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, April 17th from 6-8 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh). Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 18th at 1 pm in the Mausoleum Chapel of Raleigh Memorial Park.

Memorial Donations are preferred in memory of her grandson, John Rainey Young to Heartland Hospice at 4505 Falls Of Neuse Road Suite 650, Raleigh, NC 27609.

I could right a book with my memories of this special lady. I spent probably more time at her house instead of mine growing up. She never complained about how much I was there. I was a very good friend of Vicki’s. We use to sit in the doorway of their kitchen and play jack rocks for hours. She was a wonderful cook. She and my Mom use to rotate on Friday nights to carry Vicki and I to a movie at Cameron Village. Tony was a little younger than us. I remember when she had Kim and Denice. It was like she raised Vicki and Tony and after they were grown she had Kim and Denice. I could write all day of the years I have been like their other sister by another Mother and Father. This sweet lady is definitely in Heaven making her presence known. She lived to play the piano and loved Floyd Cramer music. After she was confined to her bed I took her a Christmas tree and a friend helped me get it set up outside her bedroom window so she could enjoy the lights. This sweet lady will be missed a lot. She only had love for everyone that came into her life. Love from your other daughter .

Denice and I have been friends since elementary school but it's the memory of our junior high school days that I remember the most.
Mrs. Young was always gracious to let me ride to school in the mornings with Denice so I wouldn't have to ride the bus. We would joke and laugh all the way to school.
I also spent many afternoons at their home hanging out with Denice. Mrs. Young was always welcoming. I am glad that God allow our paths to cross.
Rest peacefully in the loving arms and presence of God Mrs. Young.
