Cory G. Sherling, 40, passed away at home with his loving wife and sister in law holding his hands after a valiant battle with cancer. Cory’s faith was important to him throughout his life and brought him great comfort and peace during his struggle with lymphoma. He was a loving husband to Suzanne for 16 years, a cherished father to Beth, Ciara and Hannah, a son, a brother to 7 siblings and a great friend to many.
Cory was devoted to his family and lovingly involved in every aspect of his children’s lives including coaching basketball, volleyball and track. He was such an inspiration in his coaching that the coach’s award was recently renamed the “Cory Sherling Coach of the Year Award” at Cathedral School where his daughter Ciara attends. He also loved anytime that he could get together with his extended family especially looking forward to the Annual Sherling Reunions.
Cory was blessed to be surrounded in life by so many friends who supported his family in so many ways. “Cory’s Crew” was instrumental in keeping his business running during his long battle. The fundraisers that were orchestrated humbled him to think that so many people loved and cared about him and his family. A huge source of pride to Cory was that the Knights of Columbus started the “Annual Cory Sherling Pig Roast Fundraiser“, that will benefit other families who are going through struggles.
Cory’s work ethic and eye for perfection was evident with everything he did especially concerning his own cleaning business, Hard Core Cleaning. His love of music began early and he prided himself with playing the trumpet in various Drum and Bugle Corps.
For many, Cory will always be remembered for his ever present smile and wonderful hugs that came from his heart. One of his greatest joys was in telling a fantastic story and with his enthusiasm and energy, making you feel like you were right there with him.
Cory is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne (Figura) Sherling, his three daughters, Elizabeth, Ciara and Hannah. His parents Larry and Toni Anne Sherling of Endicott and siblings: Justine, Larry, Jill, Damian, Jaimie, Jessica, John and anyone else who was lucky enough to call him a friend.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 4 PM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church - 2718 Overbrook Drive - Raleigh, NC 27608, with a reception to follow in the Fallon Center.
