David Joseph Debesis

February 12, 1943November 30, 2017

David Joseph Debesis passed away on Nov. 30, 2017 after a valiant fight with cancer. David was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 12th, 1943 to Joseph and Ann Debesis. He graduated from Cleveland's John Marshall High School in January 1961. After one semester studying Electrical Engineering at Fenn College he went to work for Doan Electric in Cleveland generating working drawings for their construction projects.

In April of 1964, he enlisted in the Army where he taught artillery computer repair at Aberdeen Proving Ground Maryland. While stationed at Aberdeen, he met his future bride, Joyce Morgan and they were married upon his honorable discharge in April 1967.

Moving back to Cleveland, he was hired by IBM into their Field Engineering Division to service customer's 360 line of mainframe computers. He also provided software support to those customers. In 1975 Dave was promoted to a programmer position in Raleigh, NC. David, Joyce, and their 4 year old daughter, Wendy moved south to Raleigh where they remained throughout David's career with IBM. In February of 1979, David and Joyce were blessed with the birth of their son, Daniel.

David's interest were varied and many. From the challenge of doing home renovations, to woodworking and interest in race cars and machining, he was always busy. He was everyone's 'go to guy' and there were few things he wouldn't tackle. Upon his retirement from IBM in 1977 he just got more active in those avocations he loved.

He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Djang of Raleigh, NC, and his son Daniel Morgan Debesis of Hilton Head Island, SC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donate to one of your local animal rescue organizations.Arrangements by Brown-Wynne, St. Mary’s Str.

We are so sorry to read of Dave's passing. Our prayers are with your family. Even though we lost touch when Dave moved to North Carolina, Dave will always be part of the Warren Road Nursery family.

I too worked closely with Dave. As with most of us who came to RTP from all parts of the country and formed a close bond, Dave was always the "go to" work horse from the start. It didn't matter if the subject was work related or mechanical "around the house item" issues. Dave and I lived fairly close in North Raleigh and when I'd have a problem with anything I was trying to fix, I'd usually go visit Dave and always come home with the answer.

There will be much heart felt sadness when we all finally realize that he is no longer with us.

Dave was a great friend, knew him from Cleveland and we kept in touch when he moved to Raleigh. We started at IBM the same year and I believe we retired the same year.
I will miss him!

I worked with Dave for many years in Raleigh and Cary. He was always straightforward and you could count on his analysis of the situations. Really enjoyed working with him and also enjoyed the social occasions where we had lots of laughs and good times. He was deeply appreciated at our IBM luncheons for retirees. I will miss him very much as will our luncheon group.
My deepest sympathies to the Debesis family.

Dave was an IBM co-worker and good friend. I could always depend on Dave to tell me how it really was. We had many a laugh working together. I will really miss him, especially at our retirement luncheon gatherings. My sympathy to the Debesis Family. I know that you will cherish the memories. Sylvia Pearce, Raleigh

Wendy, Daniel and Debesis family; we are so sad for your and our loss of a very dear friend. I worked in the same building with Dave (Computer Drive) for many years. Dave was always a consultant on most any subject or endeavor (especially home improvement) for myself and many others over the years. Dave will be dearly missed by all of us.

Dave was a former co-worker and a good friend. I know that he was a master craftsman, loved big pickup trucks and fast cars. I will really miss him.

I offer my sympathy to Wendy and Daniel.
