

Delane was born January 14, 1931, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota to Stella Quiver. His grandparents, Esther Standing Bear-Quiver and Thomas Quiver, raised him living in the culture of the Oglala people. He served our nation for 20 years retiring from the army with the rank of Lt. Colonel from the 82nd Airborne. His military assignments took him to seven countries including two tours in the Vietnam War where he served with the Special Forces and the Vietnamese Rangers.
Delane earned a Doctorate Degree in Education from North Carolina State University after retiring from the military and went on to a second career working for the Community College Systems of North Carolina were he retired as an administrator with the GED programs. Delane published his first book, Path Chosen life of a Lakota, at the age of 82.
Delane is survived by his wife Maddalena Mathis Boyer of 58 years, sons Andre Boyer, Anthony Boyer, deceased, Alexis Boyer, daughter in law Emily Boyer, and two grandsons, Julian Boyer and Gabriel Boyer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at The Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi, 11401 Leesville Rd., Raleigh on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 1:00 pm. The family will have a time of receiving from 12-1:00 pm prior to Mass. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
