Dianne Marie Cate

Dianne Marie Cate, 78, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 12, 2012. She was born February 28, 1934 in Cambridge, MA to the late John and Mary Mildred Igoe. She lived a happy youth in Arlington, MA. She graduated from Arlington High School (’52) where she met the love of her life, Don Cate. They married in 1956 and she joined him in Virginia Beach, VA, where Don served in the Navy. They raised five children together and moved multiple times with IBM, eventually settling in Raleigh in 1968. Dianne was a wonderful mother, wife, sister, & friend. She was very involved in the community: She was an election official, Meals on Wheels volunteer, and an active member and treasurer of the Brookhaven Night Garden Club. Dianne loved going to the beach, bridge night with girlfriends, the Boston Red Sox, and going “home” to Boston to visit family.

Dianne was preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby and Billy Reardon of Cambridge, MA.

She is survived by her husband, Donald J. Cate of Raleigh; five children, Don Cate, Jr. of Raleigh; Barry Cate of VA Beach, VA; Larry Cate of Orlando, FL; Sandy Cate of Raleigh; Tracy Cate of Raleigh; daughter-in-law, Pam Cate of Orlando, FL; three grandchildren, Tyler, Madison, and Trent Cate of Orlando, FL; her sisters, Jacquelyn O’Neil and husband John, of Woburn, MA, and Mildred Brannelly, of Cambridge, MA and their families. She will also be missed by her dear friends, Noreen Wainaina and Chantay Henderson.

The family will receive friends and family on Thursday, November 15 from 6-8 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be conducted on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
