Ms. Dixies  Everytime I drove by your house I always wonderful how you are doing. I see now that you are a beautiful angel in heaven. I love you for the best Sunday school teacher you were too me and my sibling at church. 

I served as a hospice chaplain for Ms Dixie as I called her for about three years. She was a wonderful Christian lady with an infectious smile and a joyful heart. She often referred to me as her " preacher boy" and that will be forever etched in my memory. Prayers for Betsey and other surviving family members. 

Betsy, Larry and family,

I am so sorry for your loss, but we know we will see her again. She was a wonderful lady and a great Sunday School teacher.  She always greeted you with a smile when you walked into church. I loved her and I know she loved me too. 

I pray for God’s grace for you all that he gives you the peace that passeth all understanding. What a great reunion she had that day.

My Grandma Con't
Dates. Memories. Until grandma’s mind started to go, she would let you know everything she remembered to have happened on that day. Whether it be a Sunday School member’s birthday, the anniversary of someone’s death or wedding, or the birth of a child, it was stored in a diary & in her mind. 

Strong & healthy. I don’t remember grandma getting sick. She was there to take care of Crystal & me Monday-Friday morning & afternoon & on teacher workdays, school holidays & breaks. I never remember seeing her sick in bed. She made sure we had breakfast, snacks and that we got on that school bus every morning. When “we” were home sick, she took care of us. She walked to the local Foodlion way past what I thought was safe with the traffic and even was known to walk the yard for exercise. 

If grandma had ever won the lottery (she would have had to play it first) she would have given it all away to help others, or hide some of it for the potential that it would be needed. 

Open Door. Grandma’s door was always open for company and she got so excited to see a car pull in the driveway. When Pa was going out for a long fishing day or hunting day, grandma would have the fellas breakfast cooked before their big day. Really, I think that was her making sure that they knew where to bring the fish/game when they were done. 

Grandma may have known what Jesus would do, or what “she” would do, but she didn’t judge other’s for what they did. She loved everyone just as Jesus does. She knew it wasn’t her place to judge others. She was put on this Earth to show other’s what Jesus’s love was all about. She was our angel on Earth, & she has flown home to her Lord & Savior & to those that we lost before that were waiting for her. 

Let us all remember her & let her live still through us by being a little more like Mama Dixie. We can find peace in knowing she is with Jesus & we all have the opportunity to see her again. Love you so much Grandma, & thanks for loving me & us all.

My Grandma
Children. Babies. Chunky babies were healthy babies. See her smile in all the photos of children. They brought her so much joy and she left a mark in all of their hearts. She talked fondly of each and every child she ever watched, and now we are hearing the stories of the marks she left on them. This fondness of children I am so grateful to have inherited by blood and learned by watching her. She was so proud of all the neighborhood kids, church children, children of those in her extended family, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. 

Faith. Bible. Church. Grandma’s faith was a rock. Nobody ever had to wonder if Grandma King was a Christian, she was the finest example. She didn’t have to push her faith on you, she just lived by example and probably lifted up prayers for everyone she knew. If she was well, she was in church. Serving and going with the “Golden Oldies”. 

Neighbor. I remember being a young child and going with grandma and others to visit family, friends and neighbors. If we weren’t riding to them, we were walking to them. If you grew up in Leesville back in the day, you knew Mrs. Dixie King. 

Cook. Whether grandma was frying some fish that the local neighbors brought her with the best side of corn bread you ever had or one of her chocolate pudding pies or frozen cherries off the cherry tree…grandma was going to make sure that you didn’t leave hungry. She would cut me up an apple or an orange and just bring it to me while I would be watching TV after school. I didn’t have to ask, she just surprised me, cutting into small bite size pieces making sure not to leave any rind or seeds. She made sure it was how I liked it. She would make the best banana pudding and make me a special bowl without the bananas. 



When I think about my childhood, she is in so many of those memories.  From staying at her house when I was little to seeing her in church, she was always part of my life. She was the perfect example of a Godly, Christian lady.  She will be missed. I loved her and she will always be my “Mama” Dixie. 

Larry and Betsy Ms Dixie will be dearly missed by everyone. She touched our hearts  and our lives in many ways.  We are so blessed to have the time and memories with her.  With deepest sympathy, Joy and Stanley

Betsy,Larry and family.  Oh what a legacy she leaves. Remember the fun times and treasure the sweet hours spent with her. She was always smiling and that little laugh she had every time we had a conversation holds  fond memories.She was a great testimony of how God wants us to Love.  I never heard her judge or speak bad of anyone. She had an impact on me and I know she loved me and I’m thankful she was in my life.  May God’s Grace be sent to you abundantly during this time   I love y’all

I have many wonderful memories of Miss Dixie from Ebenezer - Sunday School, the nursery and Children's Church.  Miss Dixie always had a smile for you.  Not only was I blessed to have her in my life when I was younger, she also had my children, Kris and Ashleigh,  as they were coming up in church.  I am very thankful for the care she gave them. One of my fondest memories was celebrating Mother's Day at Ebenezer.  Miss Dixie had the honor of being the oldest mother in attendance and, for many years, I was the youngest.    She will be missed, but heaven has gained an Angel.

Ms. Dixie was an immense part of my childhood and a loving member of our family.  I have fond memories of our visits through the years.  She was an angel on earth and now in heaven.  Deepest condolences to Larry, Betsy Faye and family.  I will forever be her
