Donald Eugene Burgess
August 28, 1952 – October 8, 2019
Donald Eugene Burgess, 67, of Garner, died on October 8, 2019. Don was born in West Virginia, and raised in Whiting, Indiana. He married his high school sweetheart in 1971. He spent a good portion of his later years in Arlington, Virginia before moving to Garner to live with his daughter and her family in 2013. Don worked as an elevator mechanic, eventually retiring from the Elevator Industry. Don loved to travel, go fishing, and visiting with family and friends. He enjoyed music, watching football and wrestling, as well as sitting on the front porch and socializing with the neighbors. Don treasured his friends, his family, and especially loved his only grandson. They will all remember him as a generous, optimistic, loving and kind man. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kimberly Lozada and her husband Robbie; grandson, David Lozada; and sisters, Beryl Wolfe and Deborah Poff and her husband Leonard. He was preceded by his wife who passed away in 2005, Anne Marie Burgess; his parents, Garner and Margaret Burgess; and his brother, Charles Ray Burgess. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 11:00-12:00pm, with a service beginning at 12:00pm in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC. Separated by distance but not by heart. Here’s to you Don. A toast to the old days, when you and Anne would come over to play cards or watch a football game, spend holidays together, or just enjoy a family and friend visit/dinner. Most of the gang have departed, going on to better places no doubt, and for us left behind your departure leaves us very sad. Your laugh remains in my psyche. We know in our hearts we will play cards and visit once again. Here’s to the future beyond this realm. We will miss you.
