

Donald Robert Kloe, 90, of Raleigh, passed away at his home Tuesday September 8, 2015. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 2, 1925, the son of the late Karl Friedrich and Asta Midtskaug Kloe. Donald attended New York Military Academy graduating in 1942. He then went on to serve his country in the US Army, Company G of the 333rd Infantry Regiment of the 84th Infantry Division in WWII, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, and the 29th Division in the Korean War. He retired as Captain after over 20 years of service in both the active and reserve duties. Donald then graduated from the University of Virginia where he obtained his PhD in Philosophy. He taught at NC State in the Department of Modern Languages as a Spanish Professor, and other local schools and community colleges until his retirement. He was a member for over 40 years with Civitan, a member of the Sons of Norway, and in most recent years the REX Wellness Center.
Donald was predeceased in 1976 by his wife and mother of his children Barbara Hensley Kloe and by wife Vivian Jordan Kloe in 2002.
He is survived by his two daughters: Karen Keith and her husband Al of Raleigh, and Patricia Dorward and husband John of Chapel Hill, grandson Benjamin Neville and his wife Kelly and great-grandson David Neville all of Plymouth, MA. Donald will also be missed by special friend Myrtle Jones of Raleigh.
A time of visitation will be held from 2-3 pm Monday September 14, 2015 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home 300 Saint Mary’s St. Raleigh, where a funeral service will begin at 3 pm. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
