Heaven gained another Angel, and Don’s family gained a Guardian Angel for their lives on earth. Donald Lewis Reeves left his loving wife, his many family and friends, as well as his many fur-babies on Monday, October 19, for his new adventures in Heaven. He joins his Mother and Father, Cecil and Pearl Reeves, and his brother, Terry Reeves. Don is survived by his devoted wife, Becky Sellers Reeves of Raleigh, NC, his brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Jeanna Reeves of Raleigh, nephews, Matthew and Corey Reeves, niece, Taylor Reeves and sister-in-law, Peggy Montalbano of Raleigh. Also surviving are their personal pets (Boo Kitty, Chester, Rambo, Little Girl, and Mama Kitty) who brought Don unconditional love and joy every day, and they will miss his loving nurturing.
Don was introduced to his wife, the love of his life, by his cousin while attending North Carolina State University in 1970, and they remained inseparable for 45 years. They were devoted to each other, immediate family, family pets, and many homeless fur-babies throughout their marriage.
Our country was fortunate to have him serve proudly in the Navy for four years with a portion being in Vietnam War. Don attended Garner High School, was educated at Wake Tech and proudly graduated from N. C. State University following his service in the military.
Following his graduation from NCSU, Don worked with Capitol Broadcasting and later dedicated a career of over 30 years to Muzak Inc. Don was loved and highly respected by his bosses and coworkers and well known for his valued expertise and his work ethic. Those who were lucky enough to know him often described him by saying that “he was the best at what he did—he always put others before him, gave all that he had, and never expected any accolades!”
He was known as a very kind, gentle man with a heart of gold who dedicated more than 40 years of his life to the care of homeless fur-babies—he never met an animal he didn’t love. Since 1975, he and his wife, at their own expense, dedicated each and every day to feeding 7 cat colonies throughout the city. As one of their friends said: “Character and integrity is doing the right things when nobody’s looking.”
Because of their love for animals, Don and his wife, Becky, recently formed “PAWS of the Heart” charity to assist in the care, spaying/neutering and feeding of homeless animals. In lieu of flowers, donations to PAWS of the Heart are requested. Donations may be sent to PAWS of the Heart in care of Edward Clark, Treasurer 8648 Harps Mill Road Raleigh, NC 27615.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 25 from 2:00-4:00pm at the Sellers-Reeves family home. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 26 at 2:00pm at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC, with receiving of friends following. Don will be laid to rest in the mausoleum. Condolences may be made online at www.MitchellatRMP.com
