A lifelong Raleigh resident, Doris graduated from Needham Broughton High School and attended St. Mary’s Junior College.
She was married to Alexander Kenan Brock upon his return from Europe where he served in WW II. They made their home in Raleigh and had 2 sons, Kenan Brock (wife- Judy Wilkinson Brock) of Raleigh and Dan Brock (wife -Jennifer Holmes Brock) of Wilmington.
“Nanny,” as she was lovingly called by her family, was the grandmother of 7 and the great-grandmother of 14, for whom she prayed daily and was forever an inspiration.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alex and her brother and his wife, Dan H. and Erma Green of Raleigh. She is survived by her sons and their wives; grandchildren Damon and Jane Brock, Erin and Jeff Fulk, Melissa and Craig Williams, Judson Brock and Tori Brock, Chris Brock and Susan Luhrs, and Erik and Mena Brock; 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Nancy Green Hinton and husband Andrew.
For many years, Doris taught kindergarten at St. Timothy’s School where she had many friends and loving students. She loved entertaining her “Ladies,” as she called them, at her beach house over the years and was known to put some fine southern cooking on the table at these gatherings.
Doris and Alex were founding members of St. Timothy’s Church and served there in many capacities over the years. They also were very active in service to their second church home, Emma Anderson Chapel at Topsail Beach.
Doris spent her final years at Springmoor where she quickly made new friends and was provided warm and loving care by the wonderful staff. A special thanks to Cheryl Thiabault, her companion and caregiver, who became such a dear friend to her over the last years of her life, as well as the comfort and care provided by Dr. Wells Edmundson.
Doris’ legacy of loving Christ and her family will encourage and inspire all of us.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 6 at 11:00 am at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Raleigh. Friends and family are welcome to a celebration reception following the service to be held in the church parlor. Entombment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park’s Mausoleum.
