Doris R. Roberts

Doris Ray Roberts died Monday, January 14, 2013 at Rex Rehabilitation Center in Apex. Born August 9, 1921 in Lancaster County, South Carolina, Doris was the daughter of the late Lewis Raymond Roberts and Ella Morris Roberts. She was preceded in death by her sisters Sarah Ellen Roberts Iler of Raleigh and Sybil Roberts Helms of Lancaster, South Carolina and her niece Mary Roberts Iler of Raleigh.

Doris graduated from Wingate College. She worked for the ASCS State office of the US Department of Agriculture as an accountant until her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Doris was a devoted sister, aunt, and friend. She was a masterful cook and enjoyed making bread, soups, and trying new dishes. Doris solved hundreds of crossword puzzles, enjoyed playing bridge, and enjoyed ACC athletic events, especially basketball. She loved her many cats.

Doris is survived by her sister, Nancy Thomas Roberts, and her brother Samuel Ned Roberts of Raleigh. In addition, she is survived by her many nieces, nephews and their spouses and children.

Visitation will be held at 10 AM Friday, January 18 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s St. Raleigh, where funeral services will follow. Burial will be held at Lancaster Memorial Park, 1389 Memorial Park Road, Lancaster, South Carolina.
