The world lost a wonderful woman on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 when Dorothy Louise Hennessey (Dottie), 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children and her husband, Joe. Heaven is a better place now with her arrival.
Those who call her ‘Mom’ were blessed to have learned through her daily example what righteous living meant. She exemplified what a strong work ethic was, what true courage in the face of adversity was, what always choosing to do the right thing looked like even when it wasn’t convenient or easy, what sacrificing personal desires in favor of another’s best interest looked like, and most important what investing oneself in family meant. Her children will attest to the fact that it was their mother’s patience and loving guidance through life that produced their best character traits. And, in her own words, “If I had to pat myself on the back for one thing, it would be for my children’.
Dottie’s talents were not limited to being an amazing mother and wife, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was also a wonderful cook and baker, talented seamstress and quilter, and could make almost anything grow beautifully. Travel was another great passion of hers.
Dottie endeared herself to all who came to know her. Her quick smile, charming demeanor and willingness to be there for others produced many a life-long friendship. They will forever remember her.
She is survived by five children – Barbara Ellen (Ronald), Marjorie, Robert (Nancy), Donna and Janet (Greg) and stepson, Joey (Lisa). Dottie will also be sorely missed by her grandchildren who dearly loved her - Michael, Melissa, Eric, Joseph, Sarah, Chloe, Rachel, Victoria, Jacob, Samantha, Matthew, Michael and Katie, as well as, her great- grandchildren Kayla, Elizabeth, Alia, Sam, Scarlett, Charlie, Holly, Bailey, Avery and Harper. Her siblings Chloe, Barbara (Chuck), Michael, William (Diane) and Denise survive her.
Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home at 7209 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC from 6:00-8:00pm on Thursday, August 2, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Dottie at 11:00am on Friday, August 3, 2018 at St. Francis Church, 11401 Leesville Rd, Raleigh.
Memory donations in memory of Dottie can be made to Cuisine Care Packages – www.tickledpinksupport.com. It is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides free meals to breast cancer patients on their chemotherapy day.
