Dorothy Stocks Hellwig, 72, of Raleigh passed away on September 24, 2019. She was born February 28, 1947 in Wilson, NC, to Lubie Mosely Stocks and the late Mildred Louise Heath Stocks. She attended Greenville Public Schools in Greenville, NC, graduating from J.H. Rose High School in 1965 and from East Carolina University in 1970. Dorothy was married to Robert L. Hellwig, Jr. She worked as a Sales and Catering Manager for many years at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel, until her retirement in 2015. She was a member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church, and loved to read, watch movies, travel, and spend time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, her father, and her 3 children - son, Charles E. M. Hellwig and his wife, Kelley Hagerty, their 2 children John Patrick and Robert Lewis III; son, John C.J. Hellwig and his wife, Jill Y. Hellwig and their 2 children, Robert C. W. and Gabriel D. H.; and daughter, Charlotte R. L. H. Johnson and her husband, Kemp E. Johnson and their children, Robert Z.H. Byrd and Kayla Z. Johnson. She is also survived by her sister Susie Grace Stocks Volcy and her brother Lubie Moseley Stocks and their families. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Dorothy's life will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 1pm at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, the family will receive following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1300 Baxter Street Suite 150 Charlotte, NC, 28204 or to Safe Haven For Cats, 8431 Garvey Dr. #137, Raleigh, NC 27616. Brown-Wynne Funeral Home & Crematory, 300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh, is assisting the Hellwig family.
