Eaddie (Janet) Cheatham was born in Harlem, New York, on August 22nd,1953, to Rose May and Arthur. Born in Harlem Hope raised in the Bronx, New York. She attended Morris High School and graduated in June of 1971.
Janet married her High School sweetheart Christopher Cooke in April 1971. They had their first child and only child together, Melissa. While Christopher was drafted for Vietnam War in 1971; Eaddie started working at the Jewish Home and Hospital as a candy striper in her early 20’s after moving up and hard work dedication she was moved to her own Kitchan Area on her own floor which was later called Eaddie’s Place. Christopher and her, eventually divorced and later she married Bobby Cheatham, who she spent years traveling the world and built life together. She carried her memories with her husband in her heart until her last days. Throughout her life she would sew nurse uniforms and make some for special holiday scrubs. Eaddie eventually retired after 42 years at Jewish Home and Hospital as a dietitian.
After retiring in 2016, Janet decided to relocate to North Carolina where her daughter and family resided. Retiring was an adjustment for someone who is so dedicated to working daily. She spent time going for walks enjoying the backyard and crossing her ankles being retired.
Janet later on attended Higher Praise Church Bronx, New York under headship of Pastor Tony Greene. She attended in person and loved it. Once relocating she would attend virtually. She loved being involved anyway she could, even long distance. She attended as a dedicated servant for 28 years and ‘Love the Lord’.
She took her last breath on September 7th, 2026. At the age of 73. She was the youngest sibling of seven, hard work was instilled in her. She is preceded in death by her father and mother Rose May Brown and Arthur Thompson, her sisters Mary Francis Watkins and Rosetta Thompson.
She leaves to cherish her memories by her only child, Melissa Turner; a son in law, Donald Turner. Four grandchildren, Aondrone and wife Audrey, Quaynese and husband Nate, Brandon, and Isiah. And six great grandchildren Iris, Walker, Ryder, Skyler, Ellis, and Summer. With a host of nieces and nephews and many friends. Not only is she leaving behind generations of family who each share a sprinkle of her, but she is also leaving behind an impact in one way or another on everyone she came in contact with and we thank God for the time we were able to be blessed by her present. Eaddie was a woman who boldly showed her feelings, baked and cooked with soul, sewed with passion and crocheted blankets with love. We love you our beautiful.
