She was the daughter of the late Hubert and Dulcie Lewis. Edie was born and raised in Gastonia, NC where she met Ray Crawford, the love of her life. After Ray’s military service, they were married on Christmas day in 1955 and moved to Raleigh to start their lives together. Edie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Her gentle and kind soul touched all who knew her. Edie was an accomplished artist, creating masterpieces on canvas, porcelain and ceramics. She was also an excellent cook and baker, making hundreds of wedding cakes decorated with her amazing artistic skills.
Edie was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Crawford; her son, Bobby Crawford; her parents, Hubert and Dulcie Lewis; a brother, Gant Lewis.
Surviving are her children: Mary Hunting (Steve), Russell Crawford, Tommy Crawford (Ruth) and daughter-in-law, Melanie Crawford; grandchildren: Lauren (Chris), Michael, John, William, Sarah (Mitchell), Matthew, and Ashleigh and Jennifer (Anthony) and their mother, Susan; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Lena Simpson and her daughter, Sara.
Funeral services for Edie Crawford will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2026 at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 4900 Kaplan Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606. A reception will immediately follow the service at the church. Entombment in the mausoleum at Raleigh Memorial Park will follow the reception.
