Edna Earle Hudgens Watson, 93, passed away in peace and comfort while surrounded by her loving family on May 17, 2026. Edna was born in Hartwell, Georgia to the late Walter Hudgens and Mary Idell Feltman Hudgens.
Edna was a 1950 graduate of Hartwell High School and never forgot the honor of being captain of the women’s basketball team. Edna was also a talented pianist and shared her love of music with her childhood church, Sharon Presbyterian. After graduation, Edna earned a degree in bookkeeping and pursued classes in interior and floral design while awaiting her sweetheart, Guy Watson, to return from the Korean War.
On June 9, 1956, Edna married Guy and they were lovingly inseparable for over 65 years. They raised two devoted daughters, Sharon and Paulette.
Edna delighted in being a wife and mother. She created a beautiful and inviting home where she treated friends and her community to her gift of hospitality; Bridge and Dessert Nights were always a favorite. Edna faithfully served on countless committees and boards as a member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina, for over 40 years. In recognition for her commitment, Edna was awarded the Presbyterian Women’s Lifetime Membership. When the Lion’s Club allowed women members, Edna was quick to join, proudly working beside Guy to support the Lion’s Club (Dentsville, North Trenholm and Columbia Northeast Clubs) and the Eye Bank.
Edna was considered thoughtful, good humored and faithful. If asked, she would say her happiest moments were spent with her family. Edna’s graceful elegance will always be remembered as the touch that created unforgettable beauty.
Edna is survived by her two daughters, two sons-in-law, three grandchildren and one great grandson; Sharon Watson Crossett (Larry), Lorence Crossett (Karlee), Finlee Crossett; Paulette Watson Julian (Mark), Emma Julian and Nathan Julian. Edna is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
A private memorial will be held for the immediate family. Memorials are welcomed and may be sent to the Forest Lake Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden, 6500 N. Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206. https://onrealm.org/ForestLakePresb/-/form/give/now
