

Edward W. Glazener February 3, 1922 - November 9, 2016 Raleigh Edward W. Glazener, 94, of Raleigh died peacefully on Wednesday, November 9 at the Stewart Health Center at Springmoor. Born in Raleigh while his father studied at NC State, Dr. Glazener grew up in the Brevard, NC area before attending State himself. His subsequent graduate studies at the University of Maryland concluded with a PhD in genetics. His long-time association with State resumed in 1946 and lasted until his retirement in 1986. The final 26 of these years he served in the administration of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences as Associate Dean and Director of Academic Affairs. He was particularly proud of being a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of programs he helped initiate at NCSU, including the Jefferson Scholars. Dr. Glazener is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Williams Glazener, son Laurence, daughter-in-law Judith, son-in-law Alex Spencer, granddaughter Laura Spencer Grubaugh, and brother Bruce. He was predeceased by daughter Lynette G. Spencer and brother Frederic. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, November 13, at the auditorium at Springmoor, 1500 Sawmill Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the E.W. Glazener Scholarship Endowment at NCSU's NC Agricultural Foundation, Campus Box 7645, Raleigh NC 27695-7645.
