Ed will be sorely missed.   His enthusiasm for whatever he was working on and his "never met a stranger" attitude reminded me of my brother Skellie who was also Ed's friend.  They will both be sorely missed.

Dear Cindy, Leigh, and Andrew,
     Dean and I are deeply saddened by Ed's passing. While he left this world way too soon, he certainly made a difference in our neighborhood and in the surrounding Raleigh area. Without his knowledge, direction and leadership, we never would have been successful in turning the HOA over to our residents and we are truly appreciative of all of his efforts. 
     We've always admired Ed for his great wisdom, as he was a man who knew something about almost everything and never wavered in keeping his friends and neighbors informed on important happenings. It is rare nowadays to know of someone who doesn't want to just complain but who truly wants to make a difference by unselfishly committing his time and efforts to community.
     While there aren't enough words to express the sorrow in our hearts, we only hope that fond memories like these can somehow ease your pain. Please know that our deepest sympathy and our love are with you all.

It was a blessing to know and be a friend of Eds (and yours).  He "reached out" to me after meeting him at the local races and running events.  I think he knew I needed a little guidance and that my running/triathlon talent may not be enough to "become a responsible citizen":)  He was a great friend and mentor and I always felt better when I was around him.  As I look back he was there for me at the key milestones to help me on "my way" (graduation...2nd graduation....and in style with his Corvette "loaner" at my wedding:)) I had a ton of fun with Ed too....shooting pool, Fiesta post-race party, post "any race" party:) and other good times.  He set a good example with putting his family first and being "a responsible citizen of sorts" and joked with me when I seemed to be following suit "you're saying you still have a job with Merck after all these years..they haven't figured you out"...yes Ed, thanks to you I will keep trying to "be responsible" my good friend. He will be missed in many ways I am sure by your family but we will miss his always quick with a wave and smile, his obvious love of support of the republican party when visiting polling stations, his easy way about him where he could talk with anyone and for me personally I will miss his insight and knowledge typically passed along in driveway conversations. I will never pass by the driveway without remembering Ed, his easy going way and I think that if I look real hard on certain occasions I will see him on his John Deer with a casual wave and for sure I will wave back. Ed was such a wonderful neighbor and a man with a very big and generous heart. We have such fond memories of our dinner club especially the wonderful Christmas themed dinner at your house. The time he checked out our house when we were gone and Anastatia was coming home from school and we thought there was a burglar--he checked every closet and storage space to make sure it was safe! And coming over and spending the day with us for her graduation party. He will be truly missed. I am so sad to hear of Eddie's passing. Eddie was one of many extra "Dads" all the Cherry Oaks kids had growing up, especially on Cherrywood Drive. Howard and I will miss Ed terribly.  He was a true friend who helped others and his country.  I enjoyed canvassing the neighborhoods with Ed during the last election, and he was ever-present at the polls helping out.  I will miss his witty e-mails and his wonderful southern drawl around our neighborhood.  It will never be the same, but we are better for having known him. We have lost a real treasure.

While I lived in the condo's in Clarksville,Ed and Cindy were more than a neighbor they were great friends.  Ed was one of the first to befriend me and help me move in.  As time went by we were fishing buddies, camping partners, and much more.  
I would like to share one story about Ed. I had just started dating my now  wife of seven years. Her dad being a huge state fan had just purchased 4 seats for football.  remembering that this is one  of the first times we had met.  I look at Beth and say you know Ed has tickets here also.  No latter than I said that I heard from above "Jon". Of corse I came back with the usual "Ed". We were always loud.   I will miss you always. Love Jon
