

He will be missed by his wife, Anita, his brother Donald and wife Dorothy and by his many friends and colleagues.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1932, and grew up in Berwyn, Illinois. Edward graduated from the University of Illinois with a PhD in 1957 and was a NSF postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University. He went to the University of Wisconsin as Instructor and Assistant Professor of Chemistry in 1958. In 1964, he went to Monsanto Company in St. Louis, Missouri, to work in their Corporate Research Department. In 1986, he arrived in Raleigh to be Professor of Chemistry at North Carolina State University. In 1997, he became Professor Emeritus.
Edward had many hobbies. He was an amateur musician, playing the clarinet and the guitar and was a skilled calligrapher. He played Baseball and went on to play Cricket and Soccer. He became a dedicated solver of difficult crossword puzzles.
Edward served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 1982-1992. He was chair of the 1990 meeting of the ENC in Asilomar, California.
He will be remembered perhaps most for the effort he put into helping colleagues and post doctoral and doctoral students.
A memorial gathering will be held at NC State University.
