She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University in 1957, a Master of Arts from Ohio State in 1960, and a Ph.D. from Baylor University in 1978. While a graduate student at Ohio State, she met, and in 1958 married, the love of her life, John Charles Flynn, a graduate of Penn State and a fellow student at Ohio State. They shared 64 years together before he passed away in 2022.
She worked as a clinical psychologist, opening her private practice in Waco, Texas in 1980, and serving as the Director of Geriatrics at Brazos Psychiatric Hospital.
Outside of work, she enjoyed traveling, having visited over 50 countries, along with gardening, reading, and playing the stock market. She was a devoted member of the League of Women Voters and the Quail Ridge Book Club.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Elizabeth) Flynn Delacote, and her husband, Pierre-Yves Delacote, son, Michael Charles Flynn. She was a proud grandmother to three grandchildren, Chloe, Maxime and Ryan Delacote.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, John Charles Flynn.
A service to celebrate her long and blessed life will be held on Friday, August 28th at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Burial arrangements will be handled by Ashton Funeral Home in Easton, Pennsylvania at a day and time to be announced.
