Born on January 19, 1931, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Betty was the daughter of the late Samuel Howell Hill and Harriet Dean Hill. She graduated from the Women's College in Greensboro, North Carolina.
After college, Betty taught elementary school in the Wilmington area where she met the Rev. Ichabod Mayo Little, Jr. They married on July 28, 1962. She was a devoted wife who faithfully supported Mayo throughout the many parishes he served. She was active in numerous civic and church activities and especially enjoyed serving on the church altar guild, as well as participating in her book and bridge clubs. Betty loved her five grandchildren and treasured the family beach vacations the family shared together.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Harriet Little Chen (Herb); her son, John Mayo Little (Sara Katherine); and her grandchildren, Dr. Herbert Alexander Chen (Dale); Elizabeth Bailey Chen (Darian); John Mayo Little, Jr.; Hill Sloan Little and Henry Maddison Little; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her sister and brother-in -law, Margaret (Peggy) and Bruce Deschamps; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris and Charles Wilson.
A reception will be held Thursday, July 30th from 1pm-3pm at the Cardinal at North Hills St., Raleigh, NC. A burial will be held at a future date in Robersonville, North Carolina.
