Elliott Paul Murnick, of Raleigh, died Monday, June 19th 2017 in Raleigh. He was born June 15, 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia. He grew up in Charlotte, NC where he graduated from Myer’s Park High School. In 1964, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
While attending UNC, he was a basketball manager for Dean Smith’s first team. Throughout his life, he loved to attend all UNC sporting events and was an active member of the Rams Club.
Elliott worked in his family’s business, Mid-Atlantic Wrestling, and Jim Crockett Promotions, to promote wrestling events and entertainment shows across the state. He later worked to promote national professional wrestling shows for Turner Broadcasting. In the early 2000s, he served as the General Manager for the Big Sandy Arena in Huntington, West Virginia.
He is survived by his daughters, Anna Claire Murnick Price and Abigail Murnick Jones; son-in-laws, Patrick Watson Price and Patrick Buchanan Jones; daughter-in-law, Jonna Bell Gage; and grandchildren, Joseph William Murnick, Jacob Carl Murnick and Lucille Watson Price.
Elliott is preceded in death by his spouse of twenty-nine years Anne Arbes Murnick; parents, Joseph Harold Murnick and Shirley Glasser Murnick; brother, Carl David Murnick; and son, Robert Elliott Murnick.
The family will receive friends and relatives for a graveside service to be held 10:30am Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery, State Street, Raleigh, NC 27601.
