Emily was born on November 8, 1937, and was the beloved daughter of the late Fred and Emma Cannady Poe. She grew up in Wilson with a strong sense of family, faith, and kindness.
Emily later moved to Raleigh, where she worked for many years in the records department at Rex Hospital and took great pride in her work. After retiring, Emily lovingly dedicated herself to caring for her parents in their later years—a testament to her deep devotion and selflessness.
