Raleigh, North Carolina - Evelyn Wallace Teeter of Raleigh passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Laurels of Forest Glenn in Garner, NC. She was born in Star, NC on September 9, 1931 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Clegg Wallace. She was preceded in death by her sweet husband of 41 years, Grover Whitson Teeter.
After growing up in Star where her father was the local pharmacist, Evelyn left her small town to attend the University of Pittsburgh. She then traveled through Europe with friends and returned to North Carolina and married Grover in 1960. They moved to Raleigh and settled down for their busy careers. Grover worked for Norfolk Southern railroad until retirement. Evelyn was a sharp minded business woman and started her own staffing business in the triangle area that was incredibly successful and brought her much pride. She was also the President of the Raleigh Lioness Club where she created many lifelong friendships. Evelyn was a strong Republican who was passionate about a conservative approach to life and she was generous in her support of that cause.
Two of her strongest characteristics were her beautiful voice and her faithful Christian heart. Evelyn brought joy for years to those both in the downtown Raleigh First Presbyterian Church Choir as well as anyone in the congregation. Her smile was infectious and her laugh even more so. Her family – although small in numbers - enjoyed sharing meals and holiday dinners with Evelyn as she always brought laughter and intelligent conversation to any gathering she attended. Her neighbors on Beaver Dam Rd were all so kind to Evelyn and invited her to their dinners as well.
Evelyn will long be remembered for her incredibly generous heart, her love for her friends and family and all animals. She always enjoyed her time delivering Meals on Wheels to help those who needed it and volunteering at the SPCA. During the last several years of Evelyn’s declining health - her family truly appreciates the love and support that she received from Rosemary Smith and also her long-time friend Betty Fuller. These two incredible women have shown true caring and compassion that made Evelyn’s final years and months as graceful as anyone could wish for. They would also like to thank the Heartland Hospice Team that visited Evelyn at The Laurels of Forest Glenn these last months to ensure her comfort and care until the very end. The work of Hospice is nothing but Angelic and their service is so appreciated.
To honor Evelyn a funeral will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park on Glenwood Avenue. The family will receive visitors and guests prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm.
