Frances Partin Hughes
September 20, 1936 – October 29, 2019
Frances Partin Hughes, 83, passed away on October 29, 2019 at Rex Hospital following brief illness. Born on September 20, 1936 in Willow Springs; she graduated from Wake Technical Community College. Frances was a waitress at Balentines and Krispy Kreme and a long-time member of Six Forks Baptist Church in Raleigh.
As a devoted Christian, Frances could be compared to the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31:10-31. She cared for her husband and her children and her home with great honor. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and had a strong relationship with Him. She enjoyed reading her Bible, having read it from beginning to end nine times. Frances was generous in spirit - giving to St. Jude's and the Salvation Army.
She was the heart of her family. Affectionately called "Nana", "Granny" and GranGran", she loved children and even sponsored many a far. Known for her Hersey Kisses - "just take two", her cranberry salad and her lemon cakes; she enjoyed Debbie's apple cake, shrimp dip, her Swiss Mocha coffee, Sonic Vanilla Milkshakes with four cherries, and Eggnog at Christmas. Frances also enjoyed puzzles, solitaire and games on her tablet, watching NCIS, Blue Bloods and The Voice. She just loved it when the family got all together, the color red and roses. She was free with her opinions and honest if she liked or didn't like something. No matter how she was feeling, if asked - she would reply "Fair to middling". She will be missed by many.
Frances is survived by her husband of 66 years, who lovingly called her his "Ace": George Buck Hughes, Jr.; son: John Hughes and wife Lucia, of Zebulon; daughters: Deborah Ayscue and husband Jerry, of Youngsville, Becky Hughes, of Zebulon, Teresa Grant and husband Tony, of Middlesex and Brenda Bridges and husband Tony, of Greensboro; her adopted son: Thomas Ellington Jr. and wife Sylvia and their family; by her thirteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and by other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son: Tagg Hughes and by her "Momma" - the late Rosa Lee Hughes and husband George B. Hughes, Sr.
Family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh). Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel, with interment to follow at Six Forks Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
