

Gene Gooch Floyd, 78, of Raleigh, NC, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at his home with his wife and daughters by his side. He was born in Franklin County, NC on October 27, 1933 to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Clifton Floyd. Gene graduated from Hugh Morison High School. He joined the US Marine Corp just after the Korean War and served as a Sergeant in the Intelligence Division. After his service to his country, he started his career at NC State University’s Textile Chemistry Department in Research and Development. After 38 years of service, Gene retired from NC State University in October 1995. Gene loved antiques and collectibles. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was generous, caring and thoughtful, and will be missed by all for his laughter and humor.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Drawdy Floyd; daughters, Terry F. Anderson and husband, Ronnie, and Sherry F. Stubbs and husband, Bob; grandchildren, Erin Leigh Anderson, Blake Roland Anderson, John Clifton Stubbs, Jennifer Lee Stubbs and Robert Stubbs, II; sister, Virginia Beddingfield and husband, Richard; and numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert C. Floyd.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27612. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27612.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the special caregivers, and all who said prayers and thought of them, during this difficult time.
