George Wesley Marsh

George was a 1985 graduate of Millbrook High School and a proud graduate of North Carolina State University. He and Catie (neé Shoemaker) were married in 1996. They just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary last May. George and Catie have two sons, Sam and Nate. He coached many of his sons’ sports teams over the years. He was also a children’s and youth Sunday School teacher at White Memorial Presbyterian Church for 24 years.

George’s greatest joy was spending time with his family (especially many nights competing with his sons over Jeopardy) and taking his beloved dog Stella to visit the Boys and Girls Clubs as a registered emotional support dog. His professional life was in partnership with his father and, later, two brothers at Gelder & Associates for 29 years. In retirement, he enjoyed golf, reading and spending time at their home in Pine Knoll Shores. He was a man whose heart seemed to grow bigger the more you got to know him. With his interesting humor and sharp wit, he could turn strangers into friends easily. He will be missed dearly, not just by his family, but all who had the honor to get to know him.

George was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Marsh and his father-in-law, Dr. Philip Shoemaker. He is survived by his wife, Catie; their two sons, Sam and Nate; his mother, Georgia; his brothers, Bill (Patty) and Bob (Allison); his mother-in-law, Cissie; his brother-in-law, David (Denise); and nine nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, September 27, 2026 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's Street, Raleigh. On Monday, September 28, following a private family burial, a funeral service will be held at 2:00pm in the sanctuary of Hayes Barton Baptist Church with Rev. Christopher Edmonston of White Memorial Presbyterian Church presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wake and Johnston Counties, 701 N. Raleigh Blvd.
