Lacy Summers, 61, of Raleigh, passed away on March 15, 2014.

Lacy was a man of strong faith who loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a member of Capital Community Church where he also served faithfully as a deacon. He was a talented Mechanical Engineer with a heart for serving others, who never turned down an opportunity to help someone in need. Lacy loved to do woodworking, and could fix anything he set his mind to. He enjoyed spending time on his motorcycle, and most recently found a love for sailing. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family, who were very important to him. He took great pride in all of his children and grandchildren. They remember him as a fun-loving person, who was always smiling and never met a stranger. He wanted his funeral to be a celebration, so everyone could know that he is now in his heavenly home.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Bonnie Summers; three sons, Brian Summers (Lauren), Brent Summers (Caryn), and Daniel Summers; grandchildren, Audrey, Emily, Anna Claire, Jacob and Daniel; siblings, Carole Summers, Connie Dickerson (Kenny), and Sam Summers; and a large extended family.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 18, from 6:00 – 8:00pm, at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at Providence Baptist Church, 6339 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC. Burial will follow the service at Raleigh Memorial Park. I just learned of Lacy's passing and wanted to send my condolences. I'm also an engineer and worked with Lacy, although knew him as George, 20 some years ago at Raychem. I recognized him the first day I saw him at Raychem because before that, I'd worked at Embrex and they had a copy of a poultry magazine with he and a fellow engineer Bob Lewis on the cover. I left Raychem and didn't see Lacy for many years until early one morning I was trying to delivering some equipment to Revlon and some nice guy who happened to walking in at the same time offered to help me find the right place to take it. I looked at him and thought to myself I know that guy from somewhere but the name didn't ring a bell. Checked with another fellow Raychem alumni and he told me Lacy was George from Raychem. So I made a connection with Lacy through Linkedin. Then one day I saw where Lacy was looking for work and so I put in a good word for him at Hipp Engineering and they wisely gave him a job. Sorry kind of a long story but I hope knowing that he touched many people's lives along his journey and is fondly remembered will help ease the pain of his passing. Take care.

Bonnie and Family, Paula and I are sorry for your loss. I didn't know Lacy for a long time, but you do get to know someone when you spend quality time with him, as I did while racing the sailboat together. He has had a positive impact on my life and I'm honored to know him.

Bonnie and family -- I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I have a lot of good memories of you (Bonnie) and Lacy working with the youth and Wayne Hills Baptist. Lacy was an ideal role model for us young lads, and you guys made a real impact on us in those formative years. Thank you for that, and may God grant you the peace that only He can in this difficult time.

With warmest regards,

Mike Beverly (the younger)

Bonnie and family,

So sorry to hear of Lacy's passing. It's been years, but I remember going to a Bible study in your home when you lived in the townhouse in Waynesboro. You guys were young parents at the time and I was a newlywed. Please know my prayers are with you and your boys (wives and grandchildren). May the Lord wrap his loving arms around you and give you a peace that passes all understanding.

Dear Bonnie - we remember fondly the times we met when visiting Raleigh and when you came with Lacy to the UK. It was such a shock to hear of Lacy's very premature death and we - David, Eileen, Stephanie & Jennifer Byram, offer our condolences. Also I offer them on behalf of George & Kathleen Marley, who are on holiday, and my sister Pauline and family from Ceuta. Kindest regards at this sad time. David Byram
