Gladys Bonilla, 68, passed away on October 30, 2020 in the comfort of her home surrounded by family after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on October 27, 1952 in Ponce, Puerto Rico; she was the daughter of the late Sixto Bonilla and Heraclia Rodriguez.
Coming from a family of 16 children, she was determined to carry out the values her father taught her, including independence and being a self-starter.
She got her Master’s at University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras in Evaluative Research. Gladys moved from Puerto Rico to California in 1986 with her best friend, Ana Elba. She attended English classes, where she met her husband. He would move his seat closer to her and find ways to talk to her. When she got sick, he would bring soup and take care of her. He was persistent in his pursuit to date her. They married in 1987. Gladys and Amir welcomed their daughter Tamara on November 7, 1994.
Her career was spent servicing within the County of Los Angeles as an Epidemiologist. After 20 years of the grind in Los Angeles, she decided to move her family to Raleigh, North Carolina. Gladys continued her passion in public health by serving as a Supervisor within Wake County Health and Human Services.
Gladys was a loyal friend who cherished laughter and spending quality time with loved ones. She was a true representation of the values found in the Bible. The fruit of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. She would carry this verse in her heart in all moments of her life:
“For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to give you a hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11.
Gladys was a role model for her daughter, Tamara. She carried out these values until her last breath and would want her daughter to continue the next generation with the same values.
Gladys is survived by her husband of 33 years: A. Amir Motealleh; by her cherished daughter: Tamara Recinos and husband Jonathan, of Raleigh.
