Glenda was born September 26, 1945, in Martinsville, VA, to the late James and Elva Tudor. She was the third of six children growing up on the family farm in Madison, NC. She loved school and graduated as valedictorian from Pine Hall School then went on to pursue a degree in social work at UNC-Greensboro. She married Richard, the love of her life, and they were blessed with 57 treasured years together. They attended seminary together at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where she earned a Masters degree in religious education.
Glenda worked as a social worker for much of her life, dedicating herself to serving children and adults with special needs. She retired as a mental health case manager in 2002. Glenda was passionate about serving her Lord alongside her husband pastor. Of all the important roles she had, the role she loved most was being a grandmother, “Gigi.” Nothing made her heart sing more than creating special memories with her children and grandchildren. Sharing these treasured moments together with Richard gave her the greatest joy. Glenda also loved traveling the world. Whether on a stroll or on a trip, she enjoyed any beautiful view. She always made sure to smell the flowers and find adventure along the way. Even in retirement, Glenda continued to seek out ways to care for others, especially at Yates Baptist Church in Durham where she and Richard are members. She was an active member of the Koinonia Sunday School Class and served the Sonshine community with a compassionate, gentle presence and deep commitment.
In addition to her parents, Glenda was preceded in death by her sister Becky Tucker. She is survived by husband Richard Poindexter, two daughters Tonya Carter (husband, Lin Carter) and Amy Gibbes (husband, Joe Gibbes), and six grandchildren - Joshua, Catherine & Caleb Carter, and Caroline, Thomas, & Luke Gibbes. Also surviving Glenda are two brothers - James Tudor, Jr. (wife, Ila) and Tom Tudor (wife, Sandy) as well as two sisters - Molly Bowman (husband, Terry) and Bonnie Tudor.
