

RALEIGH, NC: Gloria Williams Barkley, 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 28, 2010 in the comfort of her home surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 21, 1926 in Knotts Island, NC, she was the daughter of the late Gilmer and Myra Jones Williams.
Gloria worked as a Naval Hospital secretary during World War II and was married to Wayne D. Barkley, an Assemblies of God minister now retired. She was a member of North Haven Church in Raleigh.
She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Her life was a reflection of her love for Jesus Christ.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 64 years: Wayne David Barkley, daughters: Carolyn B. Duncan and husband Ken Duncan, of Raleigh, Susan B. Scott and husband Derric Scott of Jemison, Alabama, and son: Wayne David Barkley, Jr. and wife Cheri P. Barkley of Tabor City.
Gloria is also survived by her grandchildren: Christopher Bryan Duncan, Michael Craig Duncan, Sarah Beth Duncan, Katherine Barkley Scott, Stuart Lee Scott; a special friend, Lloyd Tolson, who was like a grandson to her; sisters: Dorothy Davis of Norfolk and Barbara Jean Greenwood of Virginia Beach, and other family and friends.
Family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue). Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 1st at 1 PM at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
