

Godfrey Charles Stallings, 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family, on January 7, 2012 in Raleigh, NC. He was born in Durham, NC on April 3, 1914, son of George Robert Stallings and Charles Elizabeth Creel Stallings.
Beloved husband, of 67 years, to the late Florence Nance Stallings. Lovingly remembered by his beloved daughters, Nancy Charles Stallings and Helen Stallings Snyder and husband Randy, all of Winston-Salem, NC. Dear grandchildren: James R. Hager and wife, Lori of Sandy, Utah, Jeffrey Hager and wife, Sara of Browns Mills, NJ, Shelley Carleson and husband, Tod , and Kerry C. Price, all of Charlotte. Great grandchildren – Drew Hager, Arran Nichol, Samson Hager, Seraphina Hager, Mica and Caden Carleson and Quinn Castner and many nieces and nephews. Godfrey was predeceased by his siblings – Margaret Stampley, Bill Stallings, and Edith Rogers.
Godfrey served honorably in the U. S. Army during World War II and was Congressionally honored for his acts of valor and courage. He was recently honored by the Triangle Flight of Honor in Washington, DC. He retired from NC Motor Vehicles Dept. as Chief Hearing Officer. He volunteered with Rex Cancer Center and was a charter member of Highland UMC. Godfrey enjoyed travelling, adventures, but most of all helping others and being with his family. In the last few years, Florence and Godfrey lived at Glenaire where they enjoyed life to the fullest, meeting many old and new friends
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 9, 2012 from 6:30 to 7:30 at Glenaire Retirement Community, 4000 Glenaire Circle, Cary, NC. The funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Highland UMC, 1901 Ridge Road, Raleigh, with visitation prior to service from 10-11 AM. Burial will follow the service at Raleigh Memorial Park with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Highland UMC in memory of Godfrey. The family would like to convey a special thanks to the Staff and friends at Glenaire.
