Gretchen Evans

Gretchen, age 70, died on September 14, 2011 at Rex Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Gretchen spent her professional life of almost 40 years as a Social Worker and Supervisor in Child Welfare Services with Wake County. She was well respected for her knowledge, caring and dedication to her work and the social workers under her supervision. Gretchen loved her work but loved her retirement. She enjoyed her yard, traveling, reading, going to pottery shows and the occasional raising of the glass at some of her favorite spots. Gretchen was a loving and supportive daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

Surviving are her sons, Jason and Tommy Watson, granddaughters Samantha Watson (Josh Chase), Chelsea Hebda and great granddaughters Kadence and Gabrielle. She is also survived by her siblings, George Evans (Sonnie), Joanne House, Carol Martson and Jackie Ledbetter.

In addition to her parents, Lonza and Eunice Evans, Gretchen was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Jesse, Lonza and Harry Evans and the love of her life, Jim Roche.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Mitchell Funeral Home. The family will enjoy meeting and sharing memories with Gretchen’s friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am with the service following at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC.
