

He was born in district Sheikhupura, pind (village) Phikhi, in Pakistan. He was 5 years old when he lost his dad. Though his early years were difficult, he married in 1947, moved to the United States in 1978, and went on to lead a happy life in Durham, NC with his wife and their 5 children: Gurmeet, Baldev, Surinder, Sukhwinder, and Param.
Gurbaxsh was a loving husband and the best father that his children could wish for. He will be remembered most for his kindness, compassion, and deep love for his family. A dedicated member of the Sikh Gurdwara of North Carolina from its inception, he embodied the spirit of “seva,” or selfless love, in everything that he did.
He is survived by his 4 children, Gurmeet, Baldev, Surinder, and Param; 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
His cremation will be held at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Homes and Crematory on August 13th at 9 AM, and memorial services will be held afterwards at the Sikh Gurdwara of North Carolina on Banner Street in Durham, NC.
