Helen Pearl Edwards Stallings passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh. She was raised in Rolesville, NC, and then, resided in Raleigh her entire adult life. She was predeceased by her husband Ted, her parents, Bryant & Ruth Edwards, her brothers, Carlyle and Claude, and sisters, Virginia and Dorothy.
She spent her career working with CP & L, first as an accounting clerk and retiring as a chief clerk in the Purchasing Department. She was ambitious and a hard worker who earned many awards during her time at CP & L. After retirement, it was not surprising that she took up another job, working in Real Estate with York Properties in their Cary office. She was always busy. In addition, Helen enjoyed many years of employment with the N.C. State Fair, in their bookkeeping division. She was an astute businesswoman and had a great sense of outlining her own future.
Helen loved her church, Macedonia Baptist, and was involved with the North Carolina Baptist Foundation where, once again, she and Ted were honorees for the 2011 North Carolina Baptist Heritage Award. It recognizes individuals and couples who represent exemplary service and giving to the various organizations associated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
Other things Helen loved were her Longaberger baskets, driving to the mountains for apples, and eating at Ballentine’s in Cameron Village and Captain Stanleys. She had a flare for wearing nice suits, and she particularly loved Pendelton Clothing, another popular store in Cameron Village.
Helen had many close friends and ties to her community. She was generous in the literal sense, but she was also generous in giving of her time and energy to people and projects. Unfortunately, Dementia and Alzheimer’s robbed her from continuing on with the things she loved in life.
If anyone has fought “the fight”, it has truly been Helen. She’s now at peace, and her soul’s at rest. We can’t cry because her life is over. We can smile because it happened.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Leonard and brother, Jerry Edwards, along with many nephews and nieces.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff, nurses and doctors at Brighton Gardens, where she lived the past seven years, and Wake Med’s Trauma Unit. Also, our sincere gratitude to Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh for their compassionate understanding and care given to Helen and the family during her final days.
A funeral service will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh, NC on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 1:00pm. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:15pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
