Helen was born on May 29, 1931 in Wade, NC to the late David Alexander Heath and Vira Jackson Heath. She married the love of her life, Edwin Ray Strickland, in 1950 and had a loving marriage for almost 70 years.
In earlier years, Helen volunteered by delivering Meals on Wheels and served as a docent at the North Carolina State Capitol where she enjoyed providing tours and explaining North Carolina’s history. She had been a member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church since 1967 and was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 27th at 11:00 am at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC. For those attending, face coverings and social distancing is requested.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Ray Strickland; infant son, David Ray Strickland; her parents, two brothers and a sister.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Strickland Benton (Don) of Carolina Beach, NC and Debra Strickland Bergold (Alan) of Rolesville, NC; grandson, Justin Ryan Lisk (Ashlyn) of Raleigh, NC; sister, Betty Heath Olaveson of Sacramento, CA; brothers, Milton Gray Heath (Ann) of Murfreesboro, TN and Chase “Jerry” Glen Heath (Kathy) of Surfside Beach, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N Michigan Ave, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
