She was born December 22, 1944, in Kinston, North Carolina, the daughter of the late George Hackney Adams Sr. and Hennie Greene Wallace Adams, and grew up in Wilson. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Peace College, where she was named Miss Peace.
On February 15, 1969, she married Andrew Jamieson Gregory Sr., her husband of 57 years, and together they made their home in Winston-Salem and then Raleigh before settling in Wrightsville Beach.
Hennie loved the Lord with all her heart and is celebrating in Heaven today. She also loved children and for many years she taught at the White Memorial Church preschool, where she made many lasting impressions. She was "Mama Hennie" and "Greggie" to many in Raleigh. She lived a life of love for all people, welcoming everyone she met with warmth and grace. She was also a devoted bridge player. She will be forever known for her smile and her genuine joy in being around people. If we close our eyes, we can all still hear her greeting us with "Hey, sug" or "Hey, honey."
She is survived by her husband, Andrew Jamieson Gregory Sr.; her daughter, Katherine Fritter, and husband Matt, and their children, Abby and Anna; her son, Jamie Gregory, and wife Catherine, and their sons, Mason and Nate; her brother, George H. Adams Jr., and wife Debbie; her sister, Acra Kluttz, and husband Bob; and many much-loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Hackney Adams and Hennie Wallace Adams.
