Henry Clay Casey Jr., a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, and man of many talents, leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, laughter, and treasured memories.
Born in Kinston, North Carolina, Henry joined the United States Air Force shortly after high school. He proudly served for four years, spending much of his service in Spain, where he worked in encrypted communications during the Vietnam War era.
Henry married Sue Horton, the love of his life, and together they built a family and a life filled with love and adventure. He began his career with IBM during the early days of Research Triangle Park and went on to enjoy a long and successful career in electronics and computer technology. He and Sue raised three daughters, Tina, Christine, and Patricia, who, along with Sue, were the center of his world.
A man who could do just about anything he set his mind to, Henry loved music, classic cars, fishing, gardening, and spending time outdoors. An avid guitar player and Chevrolet enthusiast, he rebuilt numerous Camaros and Chevrolets over the years, sharing his knowledge and passions with his daughters. Some of his most treasured memories were made fishing with his girls on the piers of Atlantic Beach.
Henry’s greatest joys were his family, his faith in God, and time spent with those he loved. He cherished his grandchildren and delighted in engaging them in conversation of his family history fishing, guitars and the latest technology going on. Whether tending his vegetables, working on a lawn mower project, or simply enjoying time together, Henry found happiness in life’s simple pleasures and in making memories with his family.
After a distinguished career with IBM as a director and project manager, Henry continued working as a consultant with Manpower before beginning a meaningful second career at Wake Enterprises. As Director of Procurement, he brought his experience, kindness, and humor to an organization dedicated to providing employment opportunities for adults with disabilities. He formed special bonds with the individuals there and continued working until his retirement in 2024.
Henry lived a life marked by faith, service, ingenuity, and compassion. He could build a computer, restore a classic car, grow a beautiful garden, play a tune on his guitar, and teach his daughters and grandchildren how to bait a hook. But perhaps his greatest gift was the love he gave and the lives he touched along the way.
His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the faith he held dear, the lessons he taught, and the countless memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
He was many things to many people, but to those who loved him most, he was simply everything.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Casey; daughters Tina Phillips of Zebulon, Christi Davis (Philip) of Smithfield, Virginia, and Patti Casey of Vanceboro; grandchildren Abbie Davis of Washington, D.C., Dillon Gallatin of San Francisco, Lance Davis of Smithfield, Virginia, and Lucas Phillips of Zebulon; and great-grandchild Oaklee Davis of Smithfield, Virginia.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his grandson, Dakota Gallatin, in 2024.
Henry will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love of family, his many talents and the countless lives he touched along the way.
A private graveside service is being planned at Raleigh Memorial Park.
