Henry Pierce Green, age 3, passed away peacefully in his parents’ arms on Friday, December 14, 2012, after a courageous battle with Metachromatic Leukodystrophy. He was born on June 21, 2009 in Raleigh, NC.
Henry was a beautiful, funny, smart and infectious child. Following a cord blood stem cell transplant, he faced many transplant complications and each time and against the odds he came through. In the end, his disease might have taken his body but his soul is free. He was amazingly tough and indescribably brave.
The family wants to thank everyone at the Duke Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant unit and clinic who worked tirelessly to help Henry and Team Green. Their support and love will never be forgotten.
Henry’s parents, Malcolm and Helen Green, and loving sister, Maggie, will miss their little warrior. Henry was so loved by his grandparents, Ron and Charlotte Heath, Judy Saylor, and Edwin Green; his uncles and aunts, Ron and Becky Heath, Mark and Amy Heath, Shelly Heath and Barry Pierce, Ed and Jennifer Green and Patty and Robert Mueller. He will also be missed by his cousins, Emma, Anna, Emily, Brian, Tim, Amanda, Alex and David.
The family will receive friends and family on Monday, December 17, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh. The funeral service will be held at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh, on Tuesday, December 18, at 2:00. Graveside service will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
In memory of Henry and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Duke’s Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Family Support Program (checks payable to Duke University with memo Henry Green and mailed to PBMT Family Support Program, 1400 Morreene Road, Durham, NC 27705).
