Hugh Beverly Kraft passed away on December 3, 2022 after a brief illness. He was 92. He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Mary Kraft and his daughter Susan Daley (of Wake Forest, NC) and his son, Steven Kraft (of Richmond, VA.).
Hugh was born and grew up in Sharon, WV, one of nine children of Samuel and Virginia Kraft. He attended Kanawha County, WV public schools. Hugh served in the US Army in Germany.
Hugh had a long and successful career with IBM starting in 1955 in Charleston, WV and Research Triangle Park, NC. He served as a customer engineer, field manager, installation planner, and technical writer. He retired after 36 years of service.
Outside of work, Hugh was a proponent of beach walking, Scouter, puzzle solver, ice cream connoisseur, accomplished woodworker, fixer of just about anything, and loved to sit quietly and listen to nature. He was a husband, father, and grandfather extraordinaire especially as a mentor and encourager. He loved to help others through Meals on Wheels, St. Mark's United Methodist Church of Raleigh, the Cancer Center and much more. He excelled at telling jokes, had a kind heart, and would do anything for his family and just about anyone else.
Hugh experienced excellent healthcare from his cardiologist, Jimmy Locklear, MD, and received outstanding care from the teams at Springmoor and Wake Med.
Along with Mary, Susan and Nathan Daley, Steve and Anne Kraft, and his grandchildren Chris and TingAn Daley, Mary Daley, Katie and David Ross, David Kraft and Delani Farrar, and Ryan Kraft - Hugh will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Hugh's memory may be made to the Pastor's Discretionary Fund at St. Mark's United Methodist Church or the charitable organization of your choosing.
