Jack Gough Reed

Jack grew up in Clemmons and was in the last graduating class from Clemmons School in 1956. He attended Guilford College. Jack worked at Western Electric in Winston Salem and Eugene Dietzgen Company in Charlotte. In 1967, he moved his family to Raleigh, where he worked with R.L. Martin Company and later JAG, Inc. He was involved with real estate sales, that led to building homes and office condominiums for Capital III.

Jack was honored and proud to serve his church in many ways: Trustee member and chair, choir member, volunteer at the Welcome Center, and longtime treasurer of Foundry Fellowship Sunday School Class.

He enjoyed his time coaching Capital Area Soccer and Basketball for youth. For many years, one of his favorite projects was his involvement with the Vineyard Camp at Westfield, NC. Jack was privileged to serve on the Capital Board of Adjustment of Raleigh and the Raleigh Planning Commission for several years.

He relished the challenge of creating a number of varied fundraising projects for the Raleigh Host Lions Club. Jack was also an avid Wolfpack sports fan. Go Pack!

Jack is survived by Pat, his wife of almost 65 years; daughter, Carol (John); son, Banning (Allison); and grandchildren, Aidan and Charlotte. He was the youngest and last survivor of nine children in the family. Jack loved to make people happy!

His service is scheduled on Monday, July 8th, 2024, at 11 o’clock at Edenton Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the Garden Gallery at the church.
