Jacqueline “Jackie” Johnson, beloved wife of the late Herbert E. Johnson for 42 years, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, March 14, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old.
Born on November 5, 1929 in Herculaneum, MO, Jacqueline was the daughter of the late William and Edith Jones and the sister of the late William Jones Jr.
Jacqueline, a long time resident of Raleigh, has also called St. Louis, MO, Cambridge, MA, and South Charleston, WV home. Additionally, she enjoyed the amazing adventure of living in Hong Kong and traveling the world with Herb and their daughters. While in Hong Kong she developed a love of the natural beauty, culture, art and cuisine of China. Upon returning to the States she shared this passion through teaching Chinese cooking classes.
Jacqueline loved actively serving in the communities wherever she lived. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a Welcome Wagon Hostess and a passionate member of the Via de Cristo (Way of Christ) movement, serving others on many retreat weekends. She was an avid reader, an expert bridge player, a high scoring bowler, accomplished tennis player and prolific knitter. Jacqueline loved sharing the peace and beauty of the beach with family and her special “Beach Bums” friends. Using her cooking and hostess skills, Jacqueline and Herb loved entertaining their numerous friends to the delight of all.
Jacqueline was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Wake Forest.
Jacqueline is survived by her daughters, Vivian (Steve) Read of Langhorne, PA, Kathy (Tim) Hansell of South Charleston, OH, and Karen (Dan) Johnson of Raleigh, NC, and by her 12 cherished grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Monday, March 19, 2018 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 3525 Rogers Road, Wake Forest with a reception to follow. After the reception, the interment will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh.
