James Leonard Felton, Jr. (Len) passed away peacefully in his home in Raleigh, NC surrounded by his loving family on October 15, 2018. He was the son of the late James Leonard Felton, Sr. and Elinor Odell Saunders Felton. He grew up in Tidewater, VA and lived most of his life in Raleigh. He was educated at William & Mary College and Virginia Tech. He had a distinguished career with IBM.
Len was a man of honor. He lived life with passion and intent. His sense of adventure caused many friends to refer to him as “the most interesting man in the world!”. His strong moral compass and dedication to family and friends was like no other. Time spent with his family and close friends were his happiest moments. His broad shoulders (literally and figuratively) could be counted upon to provide strength and support to family and friends whenever there was a need.
Len is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Mary Ann Felton, his three children James Leonard Felton III, Jodi Lyn Felton Niswonger (Mark), Brian Henry Felton (Dawn). Len was the beloved grandfather of six, Kathryn Michelle Wells (Jonathan), Melissa Felton Kuehnle (Sam), Hannah Michelle Felton, Reeves Saunders Felton, Hayden Grace Felton and Gage Corbett Felton. Also surviving are his sisters Luetta Rae Felton, Elinor Jeanette Felton McKittrick (Dave), Carolyn Marie Felton and many loved nephews, cousins and friends.
The Felton family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Dr. Roy Cromartie for his care and friendship to Len. He has been a great comfort to the family.
A service in celebration of Len’s life will be held in the chapel at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 2:30pm, followed by a reception.
