James Shepherd Field

He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandpa, “Pops” uncle and friend.

He loved working in his yard and had a true “green thumb” often growing new plants from cuttings and seeds… His yard was truly something to see with all the many different plants, azaleas, dogwoods trees, Camilla bushes and irises…just bursting with color come the start of Spring.

James Shepherd Field is survived by his sons, James Shepherd Field Jr and wife Lynda, Randy Lee Field Sr and wife Suzanne; his grandchildren Randy Lee Field ll and wife Angel, Monica Dawn Davis and husband Lt Col. Richard Davis; his great grandchildren Ashlynn Rylie Field, Harper Lillian Field, Ella Leigh Field, Sadie Joy Field, Isabella Grace Davis, Asher Liam Davis, Kinslee Ila Ann Davis; and his sister, Helen George.

Shep was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Harriett Inge Field, his parents Charles and Charlotte Field, his sister Charlotte Ann Field, and his brother Charles “Sonny” Field, Jr..

A funeral service for Shep will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612, with Reverend Gary Williams officiating. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Raleigh Memorial Park & Mitchell Funeral Home, 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612.
